Steve Jobs has passed

Steve Jobs — the man who brought us the iPhone, the iPod and the iMac — has died. The co-founder of Apple was 56 years old. Jobs had been battling a rare form of pancreatic cancer for years.  He dies only weeks after resigning as chief executive of computer giant Apple Inc. for health reasons.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," read a statement by Apple's board of directors. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve. His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts." 

Apple's website is remembering Jobs with a full page image of Jobs with his years of birth and death.
When clicked, the image changes to more text: "Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Mom sells baby to go to Disny World

A Delaware woman sold her newborn son for $15,000 to take her other two sons to Walt Disney World.

Bridget Wismer, 33, was arrested in Newcastle, Delaware after  she sold the child to John Gavaghan, 54, of Philadelphia.Police have surveillance footage of the deal going down .The child was born Aug. 31, but Wisner didn't want him.Wismer's grandmother let authorities know in September of the deal that was taking place. She justifies the situation by saying: "I wouldn't just give my baby away and never see him. I gave him to a friend. " Both buyer and seller face several charges.

Amanda arrives

Amanda Knox returned to her hometown of Seattle on Tuesday night and was as overcome with emotion as she was a day earlier in Italy, when she was acquitted on murder charges after four years in prison.
"Thank you for being there for me," she tearfully told her supporters in front of a crowd of international reporters.

That little speech she gave convinced my husband that she is in fact innocent.  
Italian prosecutors say they will take their appeal to Italy's Supreme Court -- the highest legal authority in the country. The Kercher family has said it would support any prosecution appeal.  Knox doesn't have to be present when this occurs in the Italian courts.

Family used Google to learn how to kill

An 89 year old man's daughter (49) and three grandchildren ( 19, 16, and 14)  Googled "the easiest way to kill an old person" before trying to kill him for an inheritance.
Police analysis of computers seized from the family home in Hampshire, England, also revealed Google searches on ''1000 ways to die,'' ''how to kill someone'' and ''10 easy ways to kill someone with no trace."   The 19 year old's girlfriend was also involved in the searches.
In an attempt to ''frighten him to death,'' they threw bricks through his window at night and cut the fuel line on his car to try to make it explode.
Eventually, they attacked the man using bricks in plastic bags at the house he shares with his 87-year-old wife near Winchester, England.
Police are not naming names due to the underage children involved. All denied charges of conspiracy to murder over the plot in October and November last year.  The victim — suffered head injuries — had reportedly given his privately educated daughter, his paid care-giver, lavish gifts including a car in the months leading up to the attack.
She was jailed for 17 years. Her son was given an indeterminate sentence in a young offenders' institution. His girlfriend was given three years in youth detention. The 16-year-old received a 26-month youth detention order, and her her younger sister was given a two-year youth rehabilitation order.
According to a Guardian report on the court hearings:

The victim's son spoke of his bewilderment at discovering his sister had committed the attack. The man said he and his sister had enjoyed a privileged upbringing, including private education, and that she had been planning to kill their mother, too.

''The police told me they had reason to believe my own sister and her family had been planning to kill mum and dad. They told me they believed they were planning to do away with dad first and then my mum as well. Thankfully, they never got that far.''

The Clinic

James Rabbitts firma el guión y la dirección de la producción australiana “The Clinic”,  un thriller ambientado en los 70.

Su argumento nos narra cómo una pareja de novios (Beth y Cameron) se halla de viaje para visitar a los padres de ella, que se encuentra embarazada. Cae la noche, llega el cansancio, y con él, la consabida parada en un motel de carretera para descansar. Amanece, Cameron está solo en la cama del motel. Amanece, Beth, está sola en un inquietante lugar desconocido y en su vientre, una inmensa cicatriz. Comienza la carrera, él por encontrar a su amada y su hijo nonato, ella, por la supervivencia.

“The Clinic”, pese a cumplir su función de vehículo de entretenimiento, y jugar a su favor las siempre impresionantes localizaciones de los páramos australianos, así como las de la “clínica” que le da título, está demasiado plagada de lugares comunes, tópicos del género y recursos que nos traen a la memoria innumerables producciones anteriores.

Todo ello le confiere un sabor de “ya visto” y de nula aportación al género. Ni siquiera las interpretaciones de sus protagonistas, la sufridora Tabrett Bethell en el papel de Beth o el malogrado actor Andy Whitfield (“Spartacus: Sangre y Arena”) como su desesperado consorte consiguen implicar al espectador, víctimas, quizás, de un guión demasiado pobre, que no trabaja el lado más humano de los personajes y evita la empatía de aquellos que se embarcan en esta aventura desde las butacas.

Es con todo ello esta película un producto, pese a que se aleja de toda innovación o aporte al mundo del celuloide además de no conseguir esa buscada inquietud en el espectador,  que entretiene al espectador  pero que no generará poso alguno en su memoria cinéfila.  Aceptable pero prescindible.

Casey reports and Amanda leaves Italy

Casey Anthony reported to her probation officer in Tallahassee on Monday afternoon. She revealed to her officer that she continues being unemployed and is not taking any sort of classes online or in a school.  She has not had any money rolling in the past month and she has drank alcohol (who knows how she pays for it) but not to excess.



Amanda Knox has left Italy a day after being let go free of her murder charges. She left Italy along with family members on a flight back to Seattle Washington.

Snowtown

Desde las antípodas llega la película “Snowtown” del director Justin Kurzel, una dura propuesta cuyo guión firma él mismo junto a Shaun Grant y se basa en una serie de cruentos acontecimientos sucedidos en su ciudad natal, una cadena de asesinatos en serie que pertenece ya a la crónica más negra del país.

El film nos narra el viaje a las tinieblas de un adolescente que, tras sufrir abusos sexuales cae bajo la protección de una paternal figura que, en una supuesta cruzada por la justicia y la venganza lo arrastra a una espiral de violencia, fanatismo y crimen más allá de todo límite.

Desagradable, visceral y malsana es la película, como la historia que cuenta. Unos ambientes decadentes , corruptos y enervantes, unas interpretaciones (Daniel Henshall, Lucas Pittaway, Craig Coyne… etc) desgarradas y muy meritorias dado que gran parte del reparto se compone de actores amateurs seleccionados en el área misma del rodaje y una nula concesión al espectador, atacando a su mismo sistema nervioso y despertando una potente catarsis, una continua sensación de rechazo y repulsión mediante un guión elaborado y una conjunción de elementos que generan un ambiente perfecto, infernal.

No es, sin duda, un producto para todos los públicos. Es un film duro, en lo que cuenta y en el cómo lo cuenta, una película para impactar y perdurar en la memoria y, aunque pueda rozar lo desagradable, no deja por ello de ser un ejercicio de buen cine. Interesante.

Seth Rogen wedding

Actor Seth Rogen married his long-term girlfriend, screenwriter Lauren Miller, in a ceremony on Sunday.

People magazine said the ceremony took place in Sonoma County, northern California, and among the guests were Rogen's frequent film collaborators including Jonah Hill, Adam Sandler and Paul Rudd, as well as "Knocked Up" director Judd Apatow and wife Leslie Mann.

This year has been the year of headlines being taken to trial! This time it was Amanda Knox's case to be taken to court and today she was cleared of all murder charges. The other defendant Raffaele Sollecito has also been cleared of the murder charge.  She still has to pay financial compensation to Patrick Lumumba, the bar owner who she initially blamed for the killing. Kercher's mother just seemed in shock.  Knox walked out of the court in floods of tears, almost unable to hold herself up, followed shortly afterwards by Sollecito, who showed little expression on his face. She will now be processed and then released to her family.

The murder of Meredith Kercher, Knox's roomate, occurred in Perugia, Italy, on November 1, 2007. Kercher, aged 21 at the time of her death, was a British university exchange student from London.  She was sexually assaulted and stabbed, and property belonging to her was stolen.

Rudy Guede, a resident of Perugia, was convicted in October 2008 of the sexual assault and murder of Kercher. He is now serving a reduced sentence of 16 years. Raffaele Sollecito,  Amanda Knox, were convicted of sexual assault and murder in a separate trial in December 2009.  The prosecution argued that a severed piece of Kercher's bra, including its metal hooks, revealed traces of both her DNA and that of Sollecito. Knox's DNA was matched to the handle of a kitchen knife recovered from Sollecito's flat, and the prosecution stated that Kercher's DNA was on the blade. A June 2011 report by court appointed forensic experts concluded that the previous results indicating that Kercher's DNA was on the knife blade appeared "unreliable because not supported by scientifically valid analytical procedures"  
When questioned by cops, she was seen doing cartwheels in the station and when Sollecito and Knox were outside the flat as Kercher's body was being investigated, they were seen kissing many times. Her nickname of "Foxy Knoxy" did nothing to cool down people's disgust of her.

Knox and Sollecito were given sentences of 25 and 26 years respectively. Knox and Sollecito decided to appeal the Court's ruling and have obviously won.
I was watching live as she entered the courtroom. She seemed nervous and was taking deep breaths as her lawyer rubbed her back. At times she seemed to hold back tears.  Finally as everyone stood up and the verdict was read in Italian, she let her emotions through and let the tears stream down her face, her lawyers hugged her and cheers of joy were heard in the courtroom.
Outside in the streets of Perugia, people were running cheering with joy and in other large crowds chanting "DISGRACE" and calling their peers on the phone!
In statements given outside of the courtroom, Amanda's sister said  "We are glad that Amanda's nightmare is over" She thanked the judges, those who have provided support from around the world and Knox's judges, "who loved her".  "She has suffered for four years for a crime that she did not commit."
Raffaele Sollecito's father said that the court has given his son back to him, adding: "Raffaele has nothing to do with the death of Meredith Kercher."

Her parents are not speaking about whether they will immediately come to The States due to security measures. Knox's family have been receiving death threats.

This much like Casey's verdict will go down in legal history and same as with Casey, if they are guilty then they will get what they deserve.

Judge Belvin Perry has granted a motion to unseal a videotape in the Casey Anthony case.
That video shows Casey Anthony’s reaction to learning remains of her daughter Caylee were found. Stan Strickland, the former judge in the case, ordered it to be sealed.

In the motion, Judge Perry wrote:

The jail video, as the Court has previously recognized, is a public record subject to disclosure under Chapter 119. The reason for sealing it - Ms. Anthony's right to a fair trial - is no longer applicable because the trial has been completed and she has been acquitted of all charges other than lying to law enforcement officers.

Jesse Holland y Andy Mitton dirigen y firman el guión  de este film de terror con aspiraciones pseudos-filosóficas…

“YellowBrickRoad”, nos ubica en Friar New Hampshire, una población donde, en 1940,  todos sus habitantes se reunieron para partir caminando por un sendero que se internaba en lo más profundo de los bosques adyacentes al pueblo. No se llevaron nada, ni dinero, ni pertenecia alguna, incluso sus mascotas quedaron abandonadas… y jamás regresaron. Grupos de búsqueda hallaron cientos de cadáveres, unos habían perecido de frío, otros habían sido claramente torturados y asesinados… y otros tantos permanecen desaparecidos. A raíz de este funesto acontecimiento, las leyendas en torno a esta población y sus bosques no tardan en crecer sin mesura… y en 2008 un equipo de investigación decide tomar el “camino de baldosas amarillas” del título, adentrarse en los bosques  y tratar de descubrir qué ocurrió realmente…

La premisa argumental de la película es altamente interesante, y atrapa al espectador durante la primera media hora de metraje, llenándolo de interrogantes, planteándole nuevas y sobrenaturales incógnitas una vez que comienza el viaje y descubrimientos de los protagonistas…  Pero a partir del primer hecho violento comienza a desinflarse y el interés cede al sopor y al soberano aburrimiento. El guión, lleno de trampas y vacíos, gira y gira sobre sí mismo, saltando, de una amena película de terror, a una propuesta metafísica-filosófica que pierde absolutamente al espectador en sus inexpugnables recovecos.

Un film fallido, con una gran propuesta de partida que bien podía haber aprovechado para regalar, pese a sus escasos medios, una buena película de terror psicológico/sobrenatural y que, en lugar de ello, prefiere navegar por una pretenciosa producción pseudofilosófica, una lástima, un aburrimiento. A evitar.

El director Vincent Lannoo (“Ordinary Man”, “Strass”) dirige y co-escribe (con Frédérique Broos) el guión de esta atípica enésima visita al mundo de los vampiros.

En esta ocasión el formato de la cinta es de falso documental. En ella conoceremos gracias a un equipo televisivo a una familia de vampiros belgas (interpretados por Paul Ahmarani, Julián Doré, Carlo Ferrante, Alexandra Kamp-Groeneveld…), un matrimonio con dos hijos, y su estilo de vida, amigos, actividades, régimen alimentario (sangre de inmigrantes ilegales que guardan en su corral del jardín)…  así como los problemas que la adolescencia vampírica de los jóvenes provoca y el exilio que puede suponer el quebrar las estrictas reglas de su mundo.

En una época histórica en que el mundo de los vampiros en el cine está en un punto álgido y estos se edulcoran, se cargan de glamour y mágicos poderes, aquellos que nos dibuja Vincent Lannoo son mucho más mundanos, decadentes y autoparódicos, un contrapunto altamente interesante a las familias “crepusculares” chupasanges a los que estamos acostumbrados.

El falso documental pretende, a través de sus sobrenaturales protagonistas, realizar una ácida crítica social y pone en evidencia, con las aventuras de los no-muertos lo más bajo de los vivos, el ser humano, lo que le da una trascendencia más allá de la pura carcajada y entretenimiento.  

No obstante el conjunto no llega a convencer del todo, se queda a medio camino de la crítica, a medio camino de la parodia, a medio camino del drama, de la comedia… resulta, una vez visionada, interesante pero mucho menos arriesgada de lo que cabía esperar, y eso le pasa factura frente al tipo de espectador que enfrenta una película de estas características.

Leisha Hailey, a musician and television actor was thrown off her flight in El Paso, Texas, this week after she kissed her girlfriend and bandmate, Camila Grey, in the seat next to her.

A cabin crew member, apparently responding to a passenger complaint, told Hailey that Southwest was a "family airline" and asked her to stop. By the time Hailey and Grey had stopped swearing and cursing, they were back in the airport, waiting for the next flight.
Southwest later insisted the problem was the abusive language, not the kiss. "The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight," it said.
After days of incensed reaction from Hailey, her friends and the lesbian and gay community, however, Southwest backtracked, saying it was offering a full refund for the flight and had "reached out to extend goodwill" – a form of words that fell just short of an outright apology.

Earlier this month, the lead singer of Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong, was escorted off another Southwest flight in California because he refused to pull up his sagging trousers when asked. "Don't you have better things to do than worry about that?" he retorted. The flight attendant responded: "Pull your pants up or you're getting off the plane."

Armstrong complained, loudly, after he and his companion were taken back to the airport, and Southwest ended up apologizing.
He was luckier than Deshon Marman, a college American football player who suffered his own baggy trouser incident on a US Airways flight in June. He ended up in handcuffs, under arrest and charged with trespassing, resisting arrest, and battery on a police officer. The charges were later dropped, and Marman is now suing the airline.

Kevin Smith, the film director was thrown off a flight, in February last year supposedly because he was too fat. Southwest, once again, offered "heartfelt apologies" but also said he had been removed "for the safety and comfort of all customers".

El film, protagonizado por Eoin Macken, Anna Skellern, Tereza Srbova, y Anthony Jabre, nos cuenta la historia de tres amigos (Ken, su novia Rachel y su amigo Marco, un experto navegante) que se encuentran realizando una idílica travesía en barco hasta que una señal de socorro originada en una isla supuestamente desierta rompe la paz, y no dudan en desviar su rumbo para atender la misteriosa llamada. Entra en juego entonces una extraña figura en juego, una seductora y hermosa mujer que no sabe quién es, ni cómo ha llegado hasta ese inhóspito lugar… el misterio está servido.

“Siren” se nutre de unos muy vistosos exteriores, unas interpretaciones aceptables, una fotografía cuidada y un guión a ratos intenso, a ratos tramposo. Todos estos elementos hilan una película de atmósfera, cuyo factor “terror” campa en el terreno de lo psicológico más que en lo visual, ataca a los miedos más primarios y mantiene conjeturando al espectador a lo largo de todo su metraje. No es un film de terror al uso, con lo que no es recomendable para todos los paladares, sólo para aquellos que gusten de propuestas que obliguen a su visión con una mínima parte de las neuronas en activo y dispuestos a encajar piezas de un puzzle dudoso.  Interesante.

Animal rights group PETA doesn't have much sympathy for the spear fisherman attacked by a shark this weekend. Their publicity-stunt plan: billboards and bus-bench signs on Anna Maria Island showing a shark biting a human leg with the slogan, "Payback is Hell. Go Vegan."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals abandoned plans for similar ads in 2001 after a series of shark attacks on the East Coast.

Longboat Key resident Charles Wickersham, 21, was spearfishing in the Gulf of Mexico off Anna Maria Island on Saturday when a bull shark bit his leg, tearing back enough flesh to expose his thigh bone. He had surgery Monday and his family expects he will return home in about 10 days, said his sister, Kristi Wickersham.
"We're glad that Mr. Wickersham is going to be OK," said PETA spokeswoman Ashley Byrne. "But we do hope that after this painful and frightening experience he will consider the terror and pain fish feel when they are impaled and suffocated to death. Maybe he will consider taking up another pastime."
The Wickershams could not be reached Tuesday.
PETA does take things to the extremes sometimes! They just need to back it up a little on their advertising tactics.

The Ice Cream Family Corner and Sandwiches, run by a normal Puerto Rican family, opened just three months ago in Ocala, Florida and is already causing controversy! They use an old ice cream costume, found in the closet of the building where they are located, as a way to bring attention to the restaurant.  Well this costume is causing issues because some people think it resembles a KKK outfit.




People started writing about the resemblance on Facebook and workers at the restaurant noticed a drop in customers.  The family claims they didn't know about the KKK until recently when all of the scandal started.  They have since stopped using the costume and apologized for any trouble it may have caused.

La película nos narra la historia de Mary Kee, una joven en plenos trámites de un incómodo divorcio (con pelea por el perro de la pareja y órdenes de alejamiento violadas por el medio) que se traslada a un nuevo piso a vivir. En él encontrará un antiguo teléfono que no tardará en sonar para ponerle en contacto con una misteriosa mujer.  

Mary no tardará en conocer al profesor Guido, que le ayudará a desentramar aquello que se oculta tras las siniestras llamadas que parecen originarse en el mismo lugar, pero décadas atrás, y con bien oscuras intenciones…

“The Caller” es una película modesta, pequeña, pero efectiva. El desasosegante ambiente que genera con su fotografía, ambientación musical e interpretaciones de los secundarios introduce al espectador en la historia, en el claustrofóbico espacio donde mayormente transcurre la acción. El rocambolesco guión, el papel de sus protagonistas (una notable Rachelle L. y un correcto mas plano Stephen M.) y el ritmo de la trama hacen el resto y mantienen al espectador en continua atención y entretenimiento intentando esclarecer los enigmas.

Me desvela el insistente timbre del teléfono, que obstinado no cesa en su empeño por taladrarme la 

 cabeza… claudico a la tercera llamada.. Deslizo los dedos por mi pelo, algo enmarañado y me muerdo el labio arqueando las cejas en señal de rendición.

-Mike..- Gruño con voz sombría. Aguanto estoicamente su sermón, merecido? Sí,  probablemente-

-Se puede saber qué has estado haciendo los últimos cuatro dias?, es que te has vuelto loco? Que coño te ha pasado? Creía que te habían capturado, joder!

Aparto el auricular de mi sensible oído entrecerrando mis ojos celestes.

-Mike vas a romperme los tímpanos -le respondo mordaz- he estado liado -murmuro con voz cansada…

La respuesta no le convence, pero se resigna a mi sentencia, con sabia prudencia..

- Buen chico.. mañana te llamo.. -Se despide con un escueto “cuídate”-

-         Mike?- silencio-

- Gracias..

– De nada jefe…

Desnudo, con las negras sabanas arrugadas, pegadas a mi cuerpo empapado en sudor.
Me permito unos minutos mas acostado, envuelto en mi familiar y reconfortante oscuridad, con mi sistema de defensa bloqueando el bombardeo de sensaciones que luchan por aflorar de nuevo en mi mente..
Algo en mi cambió en cuanto sus dulces ojos esmeralda se posaron llorosos sobre los míos por primera vez... y me hicieron perder el control, desatando al monstruo, que con tanto ahínco custodio… una humana venciendo mi humanidad.
Cuatro días… meneo la cabeza sintiéndome poco a poco volviendo a la realidad…mi estomago protesta furioso… necesito una ducha.
Mi instinto percibe el recién consumido crepúsculo.

– Persianas –

 La domótica obedece regalándome un espectáculo de rayos azotando las nubes..
Me deslizo silencioso como siempre al cuarto de baño.

Andares de depredador… un oído capaz de escuchar el aleteo de un buho, fuerza bruta capaz de partir un edificio en dos y una psique que dejaría en ridículo al mismísimo Hawking... pero eso sí... un apetito voraz… en todos los sentidos. Me sonrío irónico a mi mismo por mi disgregación mientras fluye el agua a presión sobre mi cuerpo electrizando mis células felices de retornar a la vida..

Con una reducida toalla enrollada a mis caderas, me preparo un nutrido desayuno que devoro sin casi respirar.

Mi ropa de cuero, mis armas, las llaves de la moto y un portazo.

Mi sensatez divaga entre mis deberes como cazador y mi reciente obsesión por Jane , en un pulso que incluso después de arrancar la BMW sigue sin vencedor.

La velocidad me concentra en la carrera que me lleva casi por instinto a las mismas libertinas calles, mientras las primeras gotas de lluvia salpican el frío asfalto..

El diluvio no propicia la concurrencia y las calles permanecen prácticamente vacías..
Un escalofrío sacude mi cuerpo y mis sentidos me alertan súbitamente de su cautivadora presencia. Freno impulsivamente derrapando la moto con un chirrido, y allí se encuentra ella, mojada de pies a cabeza, bellísima, y absolutamente perpleja cuando sus ojos perturban de nuevo los míos.

Paralizado y con el con el corazón a cien, no puedo mas que mirarla mientras el agua sigue calando en su ropa dibujando unas curvas que mis manos mueren por acariciar.
